The Scriptural Definition of “Love”

β€œAs the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you. Stay in My love.

β€œIf you guard My commands, you shall stay in My love, even as I have guarded My Father’s commands and stay in His love.

YahuChanan (Jn) 15:9-10

As for you, let that stay in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning stays in you, you also shall stay in the Son and in the Father.

1YahuChanan (Jn) 2:24

For this is the love for Alahiym, that we guard His commands, and His commands are not heavy
because everyone having been born of Alahiym overcomes the world. And this is the overcoming that has overcome the world: our belief.

1YahuChanan (Jn) 5:3-4

AndΒ this is the love, that we walk according to His commands. This is the command, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.

2YahuChanan (Jn) 1:6

Is belief as simple as saying “I believe” therefore I love Alahiym?

No it is not that simple. Belief requires action (works). Our belief ought to persuade others to inquire of 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄 Alahiym because of the esteem of 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄 that they see through observing our lives. However, before our belief can persuade others to righteousness, we have to first be persuaded by the Word of 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄 to act; to guard His charge: even His laws, and His right-rulings, and His commands, always. (Dabariym (Deu) 11:1).

Defining “Belief”

In 1YahuChanan (Jn) 5:4, regarding the word belief/faith, the translators used the Greek word pistis (G4102), which is derived from the word peithō (G3982).

What does peithō mean?

Strong’s Concordance #G3982

peithΓ³: to convince (by argument, true or false); by analogy, to pacify or conciliate (by other fair means); reflexively or passively, to assent (to evidence or authority), to rely (by inward certainty):β€”agree, assure, believe, have confidence, be (wax) confident, make friend, obey, persuade, trust, yield.

β€œYou are My friends if you do whatever I command you.

YahuChanan (Jn)15:14

Are You a Friend of the Mashiyach (Messiah) 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀔𐀏 (Yahusha)?

β€œAs the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you. Stay in My love.
β€œIf you guard My commands, you shall stay in My love, even as I have guarded My Father’s commands and stay in His love.
β€œThese words I have spoken to you, so that My joy might be in you, and that your joy might be complete.
β€œThis is My command, that you love one another, as I have loved you.
β€œNo one has greater love than this: that one should lay down his life for his friends.
β€œYou are My friends if you do whatever I command you.
β€œNo longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, for all teachings which I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

YahuChanan 15:9-15

  • Friendship with Alahiym = guarding the commands

Friendship with the World = Not Guarding the Commands

Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with Alahiym? Whoever therefore intends to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of Alahiym.

Ya’auqub (James) 4:4

Do not love the word nor that which is in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Because all that is in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but is of the world.

And the world passes away, and the lust of it, but the one doing the desire of Alahiym remains forever.

1 Yahuchanan (Jn) 2:15-17

Our belief establishes Thurah as Truth

Do we then nullify the Thurah through the belief? Let it not be! On the contrary, we establish the Thurah.

Romans 3:31

Love is an action. We give love to 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄, and stay in His love, through our actions of guarding His commands (Thurah).

Strong’s Concordance #3051

yahab: to give

Original Word: Χ™ΦΈΧ”Φ·Χ‘
Part of Speech: Verb

Belief Requires Us to Yield to the Thurah of 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄 (i.e. guard to do the commands)

But someone might say, β€œYou have belief, and I have works.” Show me your belief without your works, and I shall show you my belief by my works.
You believe thatΒ Alahiym is one.Β You do well. The demons also believe – and shudder!
But do you wish to know, O foolish man, that the belief without the works is dead?

Ya’auqub (James) 2:18-20

𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄 reckoned Abraham’s belief for righteousness because he guarded the commands.

After these events the word of 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄 came to Abram in a vision, saying, β€œDo not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your reward is exceedingly great.”

And Abram said, β€œMaster 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄, what would You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Aliy’auzar of Damashaq?”

And Abram said, β€œSee, You have given me no seed, and see, one born in my house is my heir!”

And see, the word of 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄 came to him, saying, β€œThis one is not your heir, but he who comes from your own body is your heir.”

And He brought him outside and said, β€œLook now toward the shamiym, and count the stars if you are able to count them.” And He said to him, β€œSo are your seed.”

And he believed in 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄, and He reckoned it to him for righteousness.

Barashiyth (Genesis)15:1-6

What is righteousness?

And 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄 commanded us to do all these laws, to fear 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄 our Alahiym, for our good always, to keep us alive, as it is today.
β€˜And it is righteousness for us when we guard to do all this command before 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄 our Alahiym, as He has commanded us.’

Dabariym (Deuteronomy) 6:24-25

My tongue sings of Your word. For all Your commands are righteousness.

Thahaliym 119:172

For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the set-apart command delivered unto them.

2 Kaph (Peter) 2:21

If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone doing righteousness has been born of Him.

1YahuChanan (Jn) 2:29

Righteousness = guarding to do the commands of 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄

β€œFollow righteousness, righteousness alone, so that you live and inherit the land which 𐀉𐀄𐀅𐀄 your Alahiym is giving you.

Dabariym (Deuteronomy)16:20
